Cinderella is a full animated movie of the classic fairy tale, made by TD Film Studio for its children’s channel, Learn With TD. It tells the whole story in about sixteen minutes, with warm colours, gentle songs and a happy ending. It has passed 475,000 views on YouTube and is one of the most-watched films on the channel.

The story of Cinderella

Cinderella lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters. They give her the hardest work in the house and leave her alone by the ashes of the fire. Even so, she stays kind and patient.

One day the king invites every young woman in the land to a royal ball. The stepsisters dress up and leave, and Cinderella is left behind. Then her Fairy Godmother appears. With a wave of her wand, a pumpkin becomes a coach and Cinderella’s rags become a shining gown. There is one rule: the magic ends at midnight.

At the ball, the prince dances with Cinderella all evening. When the clock strikes twelve, she runs away and loses a glass slipper on the palace steps. The prince searches the kingdom for the girl whose foot it fits. When the slipper fits Cinderella, the two are reunited, and she becomes a princess who lives happily ever after.

What children learn from it

  • Kindness matters. Cinderella is never cruel back, even when others are cruel to her.
  • Hard work and patience carry her through the worst days.
  • Hope. The story shows that things can change for the better.
  • Courage to go after a dream, even when it seems out of reach.

Where the tale comes from

Cinderella is one of the oldest stories in the world, and versions of it are told in many countries. The best-known written form is Cendrillon by Charles Perrault (1697). He added the fairy godmother, the pumpkin coach and the glass slipper. The Brothers Grimm later wrote a darker version, Aschenputtel (1812). Our film follows the gentle Perrault version, which suits young children best.

How the film was made

The film was written, designed and animated at TD Film Studio in Guwahati, India, under director Tarunabh Dutta. The team kept the look soft and colourful so that small children can follow every scene. Songs help them remember the story, and the narration is clear and slow enough for children who are still learning English.

It belongs to the same family of fairy-tale films as our full-length Sleeping Beauty. The studio makes these films with the same care as its devotional and feature films. You can see more on our page for children’s and family videos.

The Cinderella song

There is also a short Cinderella song that tells the story in rhyme. It is a good way to retell the tale after watching the film, or to sing along at storytime.

Watch it as a family

The film works well as a bedtime story, a quiet afternoon film or a first fairy tale on the TV. After watching, you can ask your child simple questions: Why was Cinderella kind? What did the fairy godmother do? How did the prince find her?
