Honest restoration

Restoration is careful interpretation

Where a photograph is torn or missing, the lost detail has to be rebuilt, and colour added to a faded print is a careful judgement, not a recovery of the original. The studio tells you what was rebuilt, and every colourised file is labelled as restored.

The same care goes into the studio’s heritage restoration and history research for films, museums and exhibitions.

Questions

Questions about old photo restoration

How do I send my old photographs?

Scan them at the highest resolution you can, or photograph them flat in daylight without glare, and send the files by email or WhatsApp. For very fragile prints, ask first.

Can a badly damaged photo be restored?

Usually, yes. Missing areas are rebuilt by hand from what remains. You are told honestly before work starts if a photograph is too damaged.

Is the colour accurate?

Faded colour can often be restored closely. Where colour must be added, it is chosen with care for the period and setting, and the file is labelled as colourised.

Can you make a memorial video from family photos?

Yes. The tribute film turns 20 to 40 photographs into a two to four minute film with music and titles.
